China’s Railways Record Over 400 Million Passenger Trips During 2025 Spring Festival Travel Rush

China’s railways have successfully handled over 400 million passenger trips during the ongoing 40-day Spring Festival travel rush, showcasing the robust transportation capacity of China during one of the world’s largest annual human migrations.

According to data released by the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (China Railway) on 15th February 2025, a total of 413 million railway trips had been made as of Friday, with 13.6 million trips recorded on Friday alone.

The Spring Festival travel rush, which began on 14th January and will conclude on 22nd February, is a critical period for China’s transportation network as millions of people travel to reunite with their families for the Lunar New Year celebrations.

To meet the surging demand, railway authorities have implemented scientific measures to allocate transportation resources effectively. They have also enhanced travel services to ensure passengers experience safe, orderly, and comfortable journeys.

This year, Chinese authorities estimate an unprecedented 9 billion inter-regional trips across all modes of transport during the Spring Festival period, underscoring the immense scale of the country’s annual travel surge. The railway system’s ability to handle such a significant volume of passengers highlights its vital role in supporting the nation’s mobility and connectivity during this festive season.
